Dorothy Johnson Taylor

Dorothy Lee Taylor died peacefully at her home in Kirkland, Washington on July 24, 2015. Born Dorothy Johnson in Washington, DC, on May 22, 1943, she was the daughter of James L. and Dorothy A. Johnson. She grew up in the Washington, DC, area and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1965 with a BA in French studies.
After graduation Dorothy worked for four years at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland, and then moved in 1970 to Logan, Utah. She earned a master's degree in educational audiology at Utah State University and joined the staff of the SKI-HI Institute, a center for persons with disabilities, particularly children, based at Utah State. Over 23 years Dorothy coordinated and conducted SKI-HI trainings locally and across the country, assisted in writing numerous grants, and worked on product development. During her last few years she was Co-Director of the Institute.
In 1999 she met Rev. J. Graley Taylor of Kirkland, and they were married in October, 2000. She immediately became involved in Inglewood Presbyterian Church and was a very active member. Dorothy worked with Graley in his role as executive director of the Academy of Religious Broadcasting and helped to plan and mount the annual ARBY Awards. She also worked part-time at Cokesbury, a religious bookstore in Kirkland.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling, spending time with Graley's daughters and grandchildren, gardening, and weekends at their cottage on a lake, Sunlight Waters.
A previous marriage to John Jensen ended in divorce.
Dorothy is survived by her brothers, Paul Johnson, his wife Nancy McAleer and daughter Katherine McAleer-Johnson, and Jimmy Johnson and his wife Dawn; by Graley's daughters, Nancy Hughett and her husband Rick Codina and sons Adan and Diego, Cheryl Hughett, Jodi Kilcup and her husband Rodney and children Kathleen and James, Jeanne Taylor Whitty and her husband Joseph Whitty and daughters Ariana, Grace, and Aubrey, and Jennifer Childress and her husband Watt and daughters Willa and Roan; and by many friends. Dorothy was preceded in death by Graley, who passed away in June, 2014.
