TOBY CHODOFF NEWBURGER

Elsa Chodoff Newburger, better known as “Toby,” passed away on July 27, 2017. Born in Langley Field, Md., on Nov. 6, 1943, Toby was a resident of St. Louis since 1972. She was married to David since 1965 and leaves a daughter Miriam Hacker, son-in-law Josh, two grandchildren, Julia and William, a sister Sarah Harden, two brothers, Mark and David Chodoff and many in-laws, nieces and nephews. Toby was a musician and animal lover. She graduated from the Oberlin Conservatory of Music in 1965, sang in the St. Louis Symphony Chorus for 35 years and the Central Reform Congregation chorus since its inception until recent years. As an animal lover, she was a docent at the St. Louis Zoo and later, on the Zoo staff. She rode and taught horsemanship and had an Animal Health Technician certificate. During her prime she and her family always had two dogs, one or two cats and a horse.
