Dorothy Oliver Young, Pioneer in School Guidance Field
 
Dorothy Oliver young, 58, vice principal and counselor at the Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School died Saturday September 1, 1962 at Suburban Hospital of a heart ailment.
 
A vice principal since 1954, Miss Young was a veteran of 36 years in the Montgomery County public schools. She began her career as a history teacher at the high school soon after graduating from the University of Maryland in 1926. She was a pioneer in student guidance in the late 1930s. For many years she was the school's only counselor. She received her master's degree from the University of Maryland in 1941.
 
Born in Montgomery County, she grew up in the District and graduated from the old Central High School in 1926. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma, the alumnae of the Mortar Board, women's college honor society, and the Wesleyan Service Guild church group. She was a past vice president of the National Association of College Deans and belonged to the Maryland Personnel and Guidance Association, the Montgomery Education Association, the Maryland State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.
