GUDRUN JUNGNER ROLFO-FONTANA

May 8, 2015 From Gudrun's daughter Christine Rolfo-Fontana Yean:

I am sorry to inform you that Gudrun Jungner Rolfo-Fontana, my mother, passed on May 8, after a long 2-year battle against cancer. She died at home right after her 50th wedding anniversary surrounded by her husband, three daughters and sons in law. She had six grand children. My father André Rolfo-Fontana survived her by a few months, passing on September 1.

Classmate Debbie Williamson Rine sent us the following information:

Gudrun Jungner Rolfo-Fontana died on May 8, 2015 after a two year battle with lung cancer. Her husband, Andre, died the following September. Gudrun was a member of the B-CC class of 1961 for two years. Her father was an eminent Swedish biochemist and was invited to work for a year at NIH. Gudrun spent her junior year with her parents in Bethesda. She spent senior year living with my family so that she could graduate with an American High School degree. While at B-CC Gudrun’s name was shortened to “Goodie.” This name stuck and it was referenced in her French obituaries. Gudrun returned to Sweden to finish her Swedish High School program. Subsequently she attended a school for interpreters in Switzerland. There she met her husband, Andre Rolfo-Fontana, a native Monegasque. They were married and lived most of their life in Monaco. Gudrun also had a favorite hideaway in Biarritz. She is survived by her three daughters: Christine, Beatrice and Axelle as well six grandchildren.
