James "Bart" Morrison  

James "Bart" Morrison (March 3, 1943 - August 27, 2024)

James Edward (Bart) Morrison, age 81, passed away peacefully at his home in Knoxville, TN on August 27, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Morrison was born in Washington, DC on March 3, 1943. He proudly served in the Navy where he was awarded the Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Bronze Stars, the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. Mr. Morrison was also awarded the Purple Heart for injuries suffered in combat. After the Navy he worked at Control Data and Martin Marietta where he was a computer specialist. Mr. Morrison accomplished his dream of becoming an engineer in 1998 graduating from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering.

Proceeded in death by his parents, Charles Glenn and Helene Mattes Morrison; sister, Barbara Morrison Utyro.

Bart is survived by his brother, Charles Morrison; nieces and nephews, Kim Williams, David Utyro, Jennifer Hutchison, Charles (Chip) Morrison; great nieces and nephews, Leila, Emma, and Abigail Williams, Ike and Tallulah Hutchison, and Ella and Darby Morrison; special friend and companion, Karen Davis, and his numerous friends who loved him dearly.

Note from Classmate Barbara Johnson: In our junior year, classmate Becky O'Connell began calling Jim "Black Bart" for the pirate of that name. He soon became known to friends as "Bart," and the sobriquet stuck.
