Nancy Seiller Tarbutton Aman, 67, slipped peacefully into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 24, 2010, at her home in Carolina Trace. She had fought bravely against breast cancer for over ten years. Born in Columbus, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late J.R. and Eleanor Tarbutton. She moved often in her youth due to her father’s job with IBM living in various Ohio cities, New York state and Maryland. She graduated fromB-CC and then attended Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. At college she met and married her husband, Ed Aman, on July 17, 1965 in Columbus, Ohio. During her college years, she was active in Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority (she shared membership in Theta with her mother, aunt and two cousins all of whom attended Ohio Wesleyan), Mortar Board (a national honorary for senior women, with election based on outstanding achievement in leadership, scholarship and service), Panhellenic Council, and served as a Residence Adviser. She was graduated in 1965 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics. Nancy moved to Midland, MI, with her new husband who was employed with Dow Chemical Company. She started her own business in the home as a seamstress, which she continued until she officially retired in October, 1997 vowing not to sew another stitch. While in Midland two different times, 1965-1975 and 1986-1999, she was very active in the local Jaycee Auxiliary (wives of Jaycees) serving as various officers including President. She was a member of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) serving as President. During her second stint in Midland prior to her husband’s retirement from Dow (1997), she was active in and eventually served as President of an Investment Club. She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Parish where she served as a Eucharistic Minister. From 1975-1986, she lived in Lake Jackson, Texas, where her husband was transferred by Dow. Although each of her three children was born in Midland, MI, they had their formative education years in Texas. It was here also where she and her husband became heavily involved in Marriage Encounter and Engaged Encounter being called out to serve by their local Pastor, Fr.Bill, from St.Michael’s Parish. She moved to North Carolina with her husband in May 1999, settling in Carolina Trace. Following her normal trend when in a new area, she became very involved almost immediately. Her activities from 1997 up until her death, included: Nine-hole Ladies Golf Association, Women’s Club (serving as President one year), Ladies of the Street (Investment Club-serving as President and Education officer), Membership Committee (Carolina Trace Country Club Board Committee-two years), President of her Hidden Lake Property Ownership Association for two years, and VP for one year. Her normal approach to many things in life and the many organizations and committees that she served on was: “Let’s make a decision and get on with it, quit talking it to death!” Her zest for life and for action was well known not only by her family but the friends and neighbors who got to know her. If you wanted something organized and then done right, you called Nancy. Her service and desire to help others included not only the Carolina Trace community, but also the surrounding Lee County and Sanford area as well. She was active in St.Stephen’s Church as a Eucharistic minister and as a driver for the On-the-Road program (providing rides for local Lee County residents to medical appointments and local shopping). She served recently as secretary of the local Meals on Wheels organization. More important to her than anything outside the home, was to be a loving wife and mother, her husband’s best friend and companion of over 45 years. She is survived by her husband, Ed, daughter Julie and her husband Joel Spielman, son Jim and his wife Melanie, daughter Jill Christine and her husband, Chris Braceland, her brother Robert Tarbutton and his wife Debby. She is also survived by a special Aunt Dorothy Baldwin, 10 grandchildren, special brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends.
Condolences can be sent to her husband:
