Paul Chaney

Paul "Chip" Chaney(1943 - 2025)

Paul Eugene Chaney, 81, of Jupiter, FL, passed away on January 11, 2025. Born on July 8, 1943, in Washington, DC, he was the son of Doris Eleanor (Mayhugh) and Paul Chaney.

Paul graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1961 and earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Maryland in 1966. He later received an MBA from Penn State University in 1971.

Paul served five years on active duty with the U.S. Navy, stationed with the U.S. Naval Security Group Activity in Hakata, Japan, and serving aboard several submarines of the Pacific Fleet. He continued his service as a member of the Naval Reserve for many years, retiring with the rank of Commander.

Following his military career, Paul embarked on a second career with the U.S. Postal Service, where he rose to the position of Senior Executive in Information Systems before taking early retirement in 1992. He met his wife Leslie in 1980 while on assignment as acting Postmaster in Boca Raton, FL. In his third career, Paul became an adjunct professor at George Washington University, training Fortune 500 company personnel in Project Management-a role that took him to destinations around the globe.

Paul's life was a testament to resilience, bravery and an insatiable quest for knowledge. He was a lifelong learner, always reading and intellectually curious, and an avid enthusiast of genealogy. He also enjoyed puzzles, riddles, a good game of Go, and just about any strategic board game he could access. When in the face of challenges, including a battle with cancer from which he fully recovered, Paul remained committed to living life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling the world and spending extended periods of time with his family in the Pocono mountains and at his brother-in-law's farm in rural southeast Pennsylvania.

He also devoted a considerable amount of time doing volunteer work with the Water's Edge Estates Owners' Association in Jupiter, FL.

Paul is survived by his wife of 41 years, Leslie Miller; their son Zachary; his daughter Genevieve and her children Luke and Eloise; and his son Judson and wife Tina (Dreger) and their twins Vivian and Colton, as well as many friends and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

A military honors interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park in Tequesta, FL, on February 1 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Paul's honor to Peggy Adams Animal Rescue League.
